OUR MISSION
The global digital economy is expected to be worth more than $100 trillion by 2025. To claim its share, Cork needs a digital state of mind and a burning ambition to lead, innovate and confidently embrace the future. Digital Cork will contribute to this by providing informed insights into the region’s digital diversity, its digital capability and its digital economy.
THE CHALLENGE
Everyone must take digital seriously, from local authorities to corner shops. It must be on the city and business agenda. Anything less will impede Cork from achieving its full digital potential. This will be bad for the economy and for our prospects in key areas such as IOT, SaaS and AI. Not all businesses will need to be at the cutting edge of digital change, but none can afford to ignore the digital realities.
OUR APPROACH
Capital cities are not always the best at developing compelling propositions. Regional cities like Cork are often quicker and nimbler and therefore better placed to respond to new opportunities. Some of the world’s most vibrant digital ecosystems are outside capital cities. We want to create a compelling reason for people to live, work and invest in “Digital Cork”.
THE SOLUTION
Position Cork as a city that is digitally engaged, on both a professional and consumer level. Create a thriving digital economy, with a plentiful supply of skills, where traditional businesses are selling online, and native digital businesses are flourishing. Acquire an international reputation, with “Digital Cork” attracting talent and investment from all over the world.
THE TEAM
Digital Cork was inspired by Kieran O’Hea, a Corkman who was formerly Chief Digital Officer of Brisbane. He hopes that some of the work he did there can be adapted for Cork. Less than six months after being launched, Digital Cork was recognised at the Cork Business Awards, where it was selected as the project with most potential to make a difference to Cork.

OUR ACTIVITIES:
Digital Cork will be a sustainable initiative which will respond to the needs of its target market. We anticipate a journey that sees Digital Cork start as an Interest Group and evolve into a Digital Cork brand. These are some of the services we may consider providing along the way:
ACCELERATE DIGITAL
Digital Cork will deliver a digital accelerator programme for SMEs, aimed at increasing their rate of adoption of digital technology. Businesses with a well-defined digital strategy aligned to their business strategy tend to have a higher digital capability. Accelerate Digital will focus therefore on the development, assessment and improvement of SME digital strategies. The programme is designed primarily for digitally aware SMEs, some of whom are already exploring digital options and others who are keen to do so.
The objective is to help participants to improve their digital capability. The Accelerate Digital programme will TELL them how to do it, SHOW them how to do it and, where required, HELP them to do it. As a result, participants will gain the confidence and the know-how to fully engage in the digital economy. Accelerate Digital will be competitively priced to appeal to small to medium sized businesses. Individual consultations will be available for an additional fee. Companies who complete Digital Cork’s online Digital Capability Survey will be encouraged to participate in the Accelerate Digital programme.
